The Beer

Happy Goblin produces hand-made beers using nothing but malt, hops, water and yeast. Our beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised, resulting in full flavoured all-natural brews. At present the goblins are busy producing a pale ale and at the same time developing new recipes for other styles of beer, and short runs for custom orders.

Since the beer is unfiltered there is a small amount of live yeast present in every bottle which give the beer a slightly hazy appearance. The yeast allows the beer to mature further in the bottle and also assists in keeping the beer fresh as it limits oxidization. The beer should continue to mature for three to six months, but beyond this period the flavour may begin to deteriorate and so we recommend it is consumed within six months of the bottling date marked on the label. For longer periods the beer should be stored at a constant cool temperature or refrigerated.

The hand-made nature of the beers results in small variations in flavour and alcohol content between batches. The exact alcohol content is hand written on every bottle.

Pale Ale

The Happy Goblin's unique Pale Ale is brewed from a blend of traditional ale malt with additional Vienna and amber malts resulting in a full flavoured, malty beer. This ale's mild bitterness comes from the addition of Fuggles hops to the kettle at the start of the boil. This beer typically has an alcohol content of around 4.5%.

Happy Goblin Pale Ale is currently available in bottles from selected outlets and also in 18 litre kegs on request.

Strong Ale

The Happy Goblin's Strong Ale is made to a similar recipe as the Pale Ale, using the same blend of malts with the addition of a small amount of crystal malt. Only the stronger wort from the first runnings of the mash is used. This results in a stronger malt flavour which is balanced by the addition of more hops to the kettle. This beer typically has an alcohol content of around 6.0%.

Happy Goblin Strong Ale is currently available in limited supply in bottles from selected outlets and also in 18 litre kegs on request.

Dark

Happy Goblin Dark Ale is made from a blend or malts, including crystal and chocolate malts to give a dark colour and rich flavour. It has an alcohol content of around 5.5%.

Happy Goblin Dark Ale is available from selected outlets.

Stout

The Happy Goblin's Stout is made with more of the Vienna and coloured malts, as well as darker roasted malts. It is a very malty beer with moderate burnt flavours and bitterness. This beer typically has an alcohol content slightly over 7.0%.

Happy Goblin Stout will be available during Winter in limited supply in bottles from selected outlets.

Ginger Beer

Happy Goblin Ginger Beer is an all malt ale, that is brewed with a home made ginger extract. This is a real beer, with real ginger flavour, not a soft drink. The alcohol content is around 4%.

Happy Goblin Ginger Beer is only brewed over Summer, and is available at selected outlets.

Fresh Beer

All varieties of Happy Goblin beer are also available in 2 or 5 litre flagons, filled straight from the maturing vessel. The fresh beer has not been carbonated, apart from a small amount of natural carbonation from the yeast. This style of beer is significantly different than most beers commonly served in Australia, and is similar to English cask ale.

Fresh beer is only available on request. Contact us to order.
